The Actors Space offers professional actor training designed to accommodate artists living and working in the Bay Area with reasonable and affordable education. Classes are divided into Mondays: The Body, and Tuesdays: The Story, culminating in The Project. Students can elect to continue on into the Spring and Summer sessions upon completion of the Fall semester. Though we offer a progressive 3-session program, our priority is to tailor the offerings to the needs of each actor. Therefore classes can also be taken as a one-off or repeated. It is our goal to make sure each class is balanced with actors that are in your peer group. Therefore enrollment begins with a submission process so that we can help place you in the session that will best suit your needs. Though every session has a central focus, the experiential and holistic approach for each class is built to engage the artist’s body, voice, mind and spirit. Students who are signed up in either class are free to attend Master Classes as well as The Actors Gym.

The actor’s journey begins with activating the actor’s own space and connecting with the essential part of any artists’ creative expression: our kid-spirit - uninhibited and spontaneous play. Each class will introduce foundational tools for the holistic actor (voice/movement/acting) beginning with finding ease in breath and voice, then building awareness of the actor’s instrument in concert with the energy of the performance space. Each week will build upon the lessons from the previous class. By the end of the semester, students will have begun to stretch their range and flexibility, will have an organic sense of all three areas of core actor training, and will be ready to move on to the next step: The Story.

A non traditional script analysis class where actors explore and investigate text by way of their own imagination and self narrative. The Story is a creative and playful space, where we work to merge the emotional self with the analytic mind. Class will culminate with the rehearsal and performance from a selected dramatic text, preparing actors for the next chapter of the Actors Journey: The Project.
Tuesdays, 6:30 p.m - 9:30p.m.
Our Master Classes will feature local and national master teachers throughout the Fall and Spring sessions. Those enrolled in ongoing classes will receive priority registration.
Tuition cost will vary from teacher to teacher.
Monthly drop-in classes for all levels of training with a focus on sustaining the tools we need to keep us connected to our creative muscle: organic responding, uninhibited play, and connection to the space and its players, within and around us.
